EVENT RULES

The Certified Hereford Beef Ultrasound premium program is designed to enhance the learning opportunity for 4-H and FFA participants through premium eligible cattle. As part of the program the participants will receive a direct introduction to markets and learn about discounts and premium pricing. This program is in addition to the current ultrasound contest and is for those cattle meeting the genotypical or phenotypical requirements of CHB.

REQUIREMENTS:

Live Animals ultrasounded must meet the following requirements to receive premium:

Phenotypic requirements of the American Hereford Association’s (AHA) live animal specification (51% White Face Cattle).

Classed as steer or heifer market animal.

Animal must be sold in the Junior Livestock Sale at the Sublette County Fair
-
U.S. Prime or Choice-: having a minimum ultrasound % intramuscular fat of 4.0%
-
Less than 30 months of age
-
Ribeye Area (REA) of 10.0 to 16.0 square inches
-
Hot Carcass Weight (HCW) of 1,100 pounds or less
-
Fat Thickness (FT) less than 1.0 inch
-
Moderately thick or thicker muscling and tend to be at least moderately wide and thick in relation to their length.

No hump exceeding 2 inches in height.

Estimate of Hot Carcass Weight (HCW) will be Liveweight (LW) multiplied by Dressing Percentage (62%); HCW=LW*62%

Kidney, Pelvic and Heart fat (KPH) will be estimated at 3.0%
-
Ultrasound Values will be used for Fat Thickness (FT), Rib eye Area (REA), and %IMF
-
Yield Grade= 2.5 + (2.5 × FT) + (0.2 × % KPH) + (0.0038 × HCW) - (0.32 × REA)

Premiums will be paid by Sublette 4-H Council and presented to recipients at Achievement Night.
